Dr. José Humphreys is a graduate of the American International School of Medicine; a 4-year WHO/IMED Listed government approved medical school with headquarters in Atlanta Georgia. He graduated with honors with a Doctor of Medicine degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.95/4.0 and received the Clinical Deans award for outstanding performance in clinical medicine.
He completed modules in Allergy with the University of Southampton, School of Medicine and a certificate in Epidemiology with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine/University of London. His clinical exposure were completed at a number of teaching hospitals including Royal South Hants, Southampton General Hospital, University of the West Indies affiliated hospitals (Trinidad), St. Barnabas Hospital (Bronx, New York), Jenkins County Hospital (Atlanta, Georgia) and Lawndale Christian Medical Center (Illinois). He is the holder of a CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Skilled National Certificate as a Doctor of Medicine and is registered to practice medicine in Montserrat BWI.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Humphreys is a missionary at heart and completed mission work in South America, Ukraine and Haiti during the earthquake. In Haiti, Dr. Humphreys lead a team of humanitarians and health care providers and collectively trained and certified over 30 nurses and doctors in CPR/BLS, PALS and ACLS. For this, he was awarded the Church of God World Mission Honor Award.
In 2010, Dr. Humphreys was chosen as a Young Professional Commissioner of the Global Commission on Education of the Health Professionals for the 21st Century which was facilitated by Harvard Medical School. This review was published in the renowned Lancet Journal. He holds membership in the Caribbean College of Family Physicians, European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (Associate) and the General Council (University of Edinburgh).
Dr. Humphreys obtained a Master of Science Internal Medicine from the University of Edinburgh (College of Medicine)/Edinburgh Medical College and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. In 2017, he completed a Fellowship in Family Medicine with the Martin Luther Christian University. In 2020 obtained a Master of Philosophy in Public Policy and Administration with a specialization in Health Policy with Walden University and is currently a doctoral (Doctor of Philosophy) candidate in Public Policy and Administration with a specialization in Health Policy (strong focus on public health) with the same institution. In 2019, Dr. Humphreys was admitted to membership in the Golden Key International Honor Society. This Society offers membership to graduate students who are recognized as the top 15 percent academic achievers across the world. Based on his academic achievements, he was also inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), Sigma Alpha Pi and the Pi Alpha Alpha Society. Since 2016, he has served as the Medical Adviser on the Governing Board of the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross and in 2020, policy issues was added to his portfolio as a governor. His direct function under the ABRC involves Public Health, Disaster, Epidemic & Risk Management Control. In 2017, Dr. Humphreys was certified as an epidemic control facilitator and later used this knowledge as the ABRC Representative to the Antigua and Barbuda National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.
Dr. Humphreys is dedicated and research-oriented with a keen eye for details. He has published several scientific papers and opinion pieces in many notable journals and has also published several books on short stories, poetry, folklore and herbal and home remedies. Hard work for him is considered just a challenge and he will adapt my mental acumen to meet these challenges.
